Xenium Analyzer from 10X Genomics
Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) was established in 2010 at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
The vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms the basic understanding of the mechanisms involved in metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies.
The Xenium Analyzer is an easy-to-use instrument for targeted high-throughput in situ analysis and comprise of a complete solution with consumables, image acquisition, image data processing and analysis. The instrument enables run of up to two slides with an image area of 12mm X 24mm and is compatible with both fresh frozen and formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue.

The Xenium Analyzer is a platform which offers highly flexible solutions:
• The Xenium can run up to 2 slides, each slide with an image area of 12 mm x 24mm. With this image area, it is possible to either run large tissue sections or multiple smaller sections per run.
• The Xenium has a high throughput: per week, the Xenium can run up to 18 sections (10mm x 6mm) or 4 full sections (12mm X 24mm) all with probes detecting more than 400 genes.
• The probes designed for the detection of RNA use a unique pad-lock chemistry, which ensures a high sensitivity and the possibility to detect isoforms and single nucleotide variants (SNVs).
• Probe panels are available in a range of forms: fixed, fixed with custom add-ons or custom standalone panels.
• The Xenium workflow is non-destructive thus, it is possible to run other applications after a completed Xenium run e.g., staining or sequencing based spatial methods for whole transcriptomics analysis.
As a Platform, we support multiple research groups within CBMR, groups with a broad range of different research questions and goals and thus, flexibility is essential for us. The Xenium Analyzer provides the most flexible solutions for the research at CBMR.
The Xenium Analyzer comes with a computer, which ensures on-instrument data analysis. As research studies within CBMR is conducted using human models among others, on-site data analysis is a requirement due to GDPR regulations on human data. In addition, the data processing is uniquely performed during a Xenium run, and thus, the data is ready for downstream analysis upon run completion. To guarantee a flow of newly generated research data for Center researchers to reach their scientific goals, a high throughput and “time to data” is critical.
